Wood Floor Staining
Wood floor staining in Bromley, from soft natural tones to rich walnut and modern greys — always sampled on your own floor first.
Colour makes a big difference to how a wooden floor feels. A darker tone adds warmth and drama, a pale or grey stain makes a space feel brighter and more modern.
Staining is carried out after sanding, as part of our floor sanding service. The freshly sanded timber takes colour evenly, and the stain is then sealed with oil or lacquer.
Why we always sample
Every timber reacts differently to stain — pine, oak and maple can look completely different with the same product. That is why we always lay out sample patches on your floor before we start. For more ideas, read our guide on choosing a stain colour.
Colours we often use
Raw and natural tones
Warm honey and light oak
Smoked and dark walnut
Grey and white-washed tones
Ebony and near-black
What can be stained?
Most solid, parquet and engineered floors take stain well. Original pine boards from a floorboards restoration look superb in darker tones. Parquet sanded through our parquet floor sanding service can be stained too, with extra care at block edges.
Our staining process
The floor is sanded to a fine, even finish first, so it absorbs stain consistently. The stain is applied and worked into the timber in manageable sections, avoiding overlaps and lap marks. It is then protected with two or three coats of oil or lacquer. Oil-based colour products are also available, combining stain and finish in one.
Staining works best on freshly sanded timber, so it is usually planned at the same time as the main restoration. It typically adds half a day to a day to the project. Darker colours show dust and scratches more than mid-tones, so we will talk through what suits your lifestyle.
Aftercare for stained floors
A stained floor is cared for in the same way as any finished floor: sweep or vacuum regularly and clean with a damp mop and a suitable floor soap. Felt pads under furniture help prevent scratches showing through the colour. When the surface looks tired, a maintenance re-oil brings it back without a full sand.
Your staining and finishing comes with our 3-month service guarantee. See our prices for staining costs.

Questions about wood floor staining
What cleaner should I use on my wooden floor?
Use a soft brush or vacuum, then a barely damp mop with a wood floor soap. Avoid steam mops and bleach or multi-surface sprays. Read our care guide for a simple routine.
Do I need to empty the room?
Empty the room where possible and take down curtains that reach the floor. We can help move heavy furniture if we know in advance. Our guide to preparing your home has more tips.
Why do you test stain colours on my floor?
Oak, pine and other woods all react to stain in their own way. Sample cards are only a rough guide, so testing on the sanded floor is the only reliable way to choose.
How are your prices worked out?
The cost depends on the size of the floor, its condition and the finish. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and the free survey gives you a fixed written quote.
Do you need to visit to give a price?
For many jobs, yes. A few clear photos and the room sizes let us give a guide price quickly. We confirm it with a short visit before work starts, so the final quote is fixed.
Do you offer floor staining?
Yes. After sanding we apply test patches on your timber so you can see how each shade looks in the room before we commit. Find out more about wood floor staining.

Good decking job
“The deck looks warm and rich again. We had to rebook once because of rain, which is understandable, and they rearranged quickly. Would use again.”
