Engineered and solid wood floor repairs in Bromley
A single damaged plank can spoil the look of an otherwise perfect floor. In most cases we can replace just the affected boards and blend them into the rest of the floor. It is quicker and far cheaper than a replacement floor.
Typical repairs
Replacing individual planks with deep damage
Re-bonding lifted or hollow-sounding boards on glued-down floors
Dealing with cupping and swelling after leaks
Tightening open joints and boards that have moved
Knowing your floor
An engineered floor has a top layer of real wood on a stable core; a solid floor is one piece of timber. The type, thickness and fixing method all affect how we repair it and whether it can be sanded afterwards. Our article on sanding engineered floors shows you how to check.
Blending the repair
Even the same product changes colour as it ages. Depending on the floor, we blend the repair locally or carry out a full solid wood restoration so the whole room is even. Oiled floors may only need a re-oil after the repair.
Dealing with water damage
Leaking appliances, overflowing baths and wet boots by the door all take their toll. Damp boards swell and cup, and water stains often go right through the wear layer. We check the moisture levels, let the floor dry properly and then decide whether the boards can be flattened by sanding or need replacing. Rushing this stage is the most common reason repairs fail.
Floating, glued and nailed floors
Floating floors click or glue together over an underlay, glued floors are bonded to the subfloor and nailed floors are secret-fixed to battens or joists. We use the right technique for your floor so replacement boards are secure and level. If you have spare boards from the original fit, keep them - they are often the best match for a repair.

Questions about engineered & solid floor repairs
Can you repair a water-damaged floor?
Often, yes. Light marks often sand away, while cupped or blackened boards are replaced and blended in. The floor must be fully dry first, so we take moisture readings before starting.
Will repairs stand out?
We match the species, width and age of your boards wherever possible. After sanding and finishing the whole area, repairs blend in. Learn more about wood floor repairs.
Do I need to empty the room?
Empty the room where possible and take down curtains that reach the floor. We can help move heavy furniture if we know in advance. Our guide to preparing your home has more tips.
Will sanding wear my solid floor out?
Solid timber floors can be sanded again and again. Each sand removes only a fraction of a millimetre when done properly, which is why period floors are still going strong after a century.
Is my engineered floor thick enough to sand?
Usually, if the wear layer is at least 3 mm thick. We check the wear layer during the free survey, often by lifting a threshold strip or a floor vent. Our engineered floor guide explains more.
Do you need to visit to give a price?
For many jobs, yes. A few clear photos and the room sizes let us give a guide price quickly. We confirm it with a short visit before work starts, so the final quote is fixed.
