Re-Coating Lacquered Floors
Lacquer re-coating in Bromley: dull walkways and fine scratches refreshed, usually in a day.
Renew your lacquered floor
A lacquered floor is protected by a hard film that sits on the surface of the timber. In time, walkways turn dull, fine scratches build up and the finish looks patchy. If the lacquer is still intact, a re-coat is quicker, cleaner and much cheaper than a full sand.
How we re-coat
A thorough clean to remove dirt, grease and polish residue
Gently abrading the surface to give the new coat grip
Dust extraction and a final tack clean
One or two coats of water-based lacquer in your choice of sheen
Can my floor be re-coated?
Re-coating works when the existing lacquer is sound and only worn on the surface. If the lacquer is peeling, the wood has gone grey or there are deep scratches and dents, the floor needs a full floor sanding first. Oiled floors need a re-oil instead. Our guide on oil or lacquer explains the difference between the two finishes.
Why re-coat?
Quick, with minimal disruption
Low-VOC lacquers that are safe for families and pets
Extends the life of your floor
Brings back a consistent, fresh look
Matt, satin or gloss?
You can keep your current look or switch to a different sheen. Matt looks the most natural and is very forgiving, satin is a popular middle ground, and gloss gives a classic shine. We can show you samples so you can choose with confidence.
How often should you re-coat?
In most homes a re-coat every few years is enough; schools and offices may need one more often. Re-coating before the lacquer wears through to the wood is the key to avoiding a full sand. We can set up a simple maintenance schedule for you.
It is a popular choice between tenancies, when time is short. A room can usually be done in a day, with the floor ready for light use the same evening.

Questions about re-coating lacquered floors
How often should an oiled floor be re-oiled?
Most homes re-oil high-traffic rooms every 12–24 months. Bedrooms often last several years. Our maintenance guide helps you judge.
What is the difference between oil and lacquer?
Oil soaks into the timber for a natural look and is easy to spot-repair. Lacquer forms a tougher surface layer that copes well with spills and busy households. We recommend the right one at the survey — or read our guide to oil and lacquer.
Are the finishes safe for children and pets?
Yes. We use low-VOC oils and water-based lacquers that are safe for children and pets once fully dry. We suggest keeping pets out of the room for the first 24 hours, and keep claws trimmed to help the finish last.
Can my floor be refreshed without a full sand?
If the finish is worn but the wood is not damaged, a maintenance coat is often enough. It is quicker and cheaper than sanding and keeps the floor protected. See re-oiling.
How are your prices worked out?
The cost depends on the size of the floor, its condition and the finish. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and the free survey gives you a fixed written quote.
Can you refresh a scratched lacquered floor?
Yes, if the scratches are only in the lacquer. We screen the surface, clean it and apply a new coat of lacquer, giving back an even, protective finish without a full sand.
